Check a manuscript's authors and suggested reviewers against open research databases: whether each researcher's profile, ORCID iD, email domain and affiliation fit together, whether their work fits the manuscript, and whether suggested reviewers have published with the authors. For reviewers who check out, find conflict-free candidates among their co-authors.
It flags; it never accuses. A free email address, a short publication record or no profile at all is a
reason to check, not evidence of misconduct. A clean result doesn't prove identity or independence either: only
your own process can confirm who controls an email address.
